INTERVIEW INFORMATION

POINTS TO REMEMBER

1. Sitting - problems with low chairs etc. Correct dress code and manner.
2. Eye contact with the interviewer - don't stare at them
3. Knowledge of your chosen subject/course
4. Enthusiasm for the course/subject
5. Shake their hand if they offer but don't chase them round the room!
6. Read the prospectus thoroughly before you go
7. If you go round in a group do talk but don't overdo it
8. Don't be critical of your school/teachers/university
9. Know some background to your chosen subject
10. Try to look as though you are enjoying the interview - no jokes!
11. Express constructive opinions if asked
12. Find out whether what seems like a casual chat is actually part of the interview

What A level have you taken?
How do they relate to the chosen course?
What books have you read recently? Try to read something to do with the course. Be sure that you know a book well if you admit to having read it.
Headlines in today's papers: make sure that you read one
World events and problems: talk with knowledge and considered opinion
Hobbies and interest: don't invent one - it may be an interest of the interviewer
Sport: Remember what you did - don't invent any
Which sports activities would you like to continue at university?
What posts of responsibility have you held at school or outside?
What contributions could you make to university life?
What can you offer? Think of something
What career prospects/ideas have you at present?
What would you do if you had twenty four hours?

5. Specialities of the department - research (if not in the prospectus)
6. Lecture load
7. Sport/music

You could be asked about anything from pig farming to nuclear physics - I have known people that have been!
